Ala-Too mountains on the south side of Lake Issyk-Köl, Kyrgyzstan, on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
As we ascend higher on horseback, Lake Issyk-Köl comes into view with the snowy peaks of the Ala-Too mountain range behind.
When I told CBT I had experience riding horses, I didn’t know they meant going on wild terrain, up and down steep, rocky hills that you wouldn’t dare hike straight up. Horseback riding was easier said than done — but look at the view.
After riding on rough, steep mountain terrain, we reach the valley of our destination. What goes up, must come down. It was always nerve-racking on a descent when the horses would literally slip down the loose gravel at each step.
