Ile Alatau National Park, Zailiysky Alatau range of the Tian Shan Mountains, outside of Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Sunday, October 12, 2014.
This road eventually turns into a hiking trail.
Hiking beyond the snow line.
I should have been more prepare like this guy; hiking this snowy mountain trail was a spontaneous decision (I didn’t even wear my hiking boots and was slipping all over on the way down.)
These mountains look like the fake backdrop in an old Sears portrait of me as a kid. But they’re real, and they’re spectacular.
Snow lodges up here aren’t quite open yet.
Where’s this kid’s parents? I found him by himself up the trail, walking up with his plastic sled and riding down.
